Chris Chelios turned 50 today. Happy Birthday, homey.
Playing 27 seasons in the NHL, Cheli was a 14-time NHL All-Star, three-time Norris Trophy winner, and three-time Stanley Cup winner.
I wish I could find out how many times Chelios was a finalist for the Norris Trophy. There’s no doubt in my mind he was nominated at least 10 times.

Chris Chelios was the player I wanted to be. Skilled, but grimey as they come.
I had zero hard feelings when Chelios left for Detroit. We were spiralling into obscurity. Do you honestly think Chelios would have stayed in the league for more than a couple more years if he had stayed in Chicago? I love that he played into his mid 40s. I also loved hearing about his weird training regiments - like when he and Gary Suter used to take the stationary bikes into the sauna and go hard for 45 minutes. An absolute specimen. Can you imagine looking this good late into your 40s?
EDIT: Now I know why we didn’t win the cup in 1992. Check out 1:10. The fuckers touched the Clarence Campbell trophy. Cheli even kissed. If only Toews was our Captain back then.
